Amazing Grace Survives Being Run Over
My Wife Lorie brought Gracie home almost seven years ago to the day.
She saw the tiny puppy on the side of the road in an ice storm and decided to stop. The dog was malnurished and abused, and was barely eight weeks old.
But she was cute. And quick to learn. She’s very even tempered and great with kids. Originally we had thought that I could train her for Search and Rescue. But she was always a little distrustful of people. It took a year or two for her to warm to me: we figure she was abused by a man.
And she’s always had a problem with coming when called. She hesitates, looks at you, and tentatively takes a few steps. She’s afraid of doing something wrong. She’s always been a roamer, and we’ve tried to watch her: to make sure she doesn’t slip her lea or leave the yard. We knew she’d be hit one of these days.
On Monday, we were running late for work. I let her out and forgot about her, and took Lorie to work and drove myself in.
Jamie was home alone when she noticed Gracie across the street. She opened the door, called her, and Gracie started across the street.
And was struck by a speeding, black, SUV.
When All was said and done, the dog ended up with abrasions all over her face from striking the pavement and rolling, contusions on her chest and lungs, and a dislocated hip, that, so far, seems to be holding without any surgery. Even the Vet seems impressed.
Of course, the Driver did not stop.

Sorry to hear it. Hope she recovers well.
I am so sorry. It must have been a horrible experience not only for Gracie but for Jamie. I hope that Jamie is doing okay as well.
Hey Lou…hope that everyone, including Gracie, is feeling better today. See you guys in less than a week (I can’t wait to pet Gracie, even though she doesn’t like me).
Oh, it’s great that J’s blogging, too, just like her pop.
Been so busy working have forgotten to ask about Gracie; glad to know she’s doing well.
