First Pics from the Incubator Expansion

Janko At Shout Youngstown has posted some pics of the construction in Downtown Youngstown.

Yes, that’s right. Construction in downtown Youngstown.  Government supported, sure , but designed to bring in quality, high paying jobs. Jobs in the technology and service sector. Not Manufacturing.

I need to let this sink in…

You mean, we can move beyond manufacturing? We can do other things here? We can take a proactive stance towards our collective quality of life WITHOUT expecting someone to tell us what to do?

The Mind Boggles. Who do we think we are, Akron?

This is so exciting! I only hope I live to see the day when they have housing in downtown Youngstown as they’ve done in Cleveland and other reborn cities. Specialty shopping as well as fine dining and entertainment are all great improvements, but so much more can be done. As I approach retirement,I would love to have the option of living in the downtown area (not particularly the high-rise that’s already there) and I would like to have my practical needs as a resident met as well. I remember the premall days of the downtown when everything we needed was there. I kind of think that if that were recreated, people would utilize it. I hate mall shopping — always have — and the congestion in the corridors leading to both Southern Park and Eastwood drives me absolutely crazy. I’d rather be able to walk down (or take the elevator) to the streets of the downtown and find everything I need within a few blocks of where I live than drive for miles to get groceries, go to the the doctor or buy a pair of shoes. Realistically, I don’t expect this to happen in my lifetime, but it’s nice to dream and maybe it will be a reality for my grandchildren.

Thanks for highlighting this. It’s been great to watch this go up. Can’t wait to see Turning Technologies move in there and free up space at the YBI for the next great software company to move in.
