Perception Becomes Reality
What do you think of Northeast Ohio?
I Think About this a lot. I started this blog 18months ago because I realized how I saw Youngstown and our region was not how others saw it. I thought there might be potential to change others perceptions. I thought that maybe pointing out that we live in a vibrant community with even more potential would make it happen.
Do you See YSU as a linchpin to our revitalization, or a glorified Community College?
Are the Suburbs better off without Youngstown being an Albatross around their necks?
Is our Future with Manufacturing Buggies, or the magic “Internets” thing?
Are we part of Cleveland or Pittsburgh? A Ghost City or a fresh start?
Is the Downtown Art scene making a comeback, or a bunch of geeks kidding themselves?
And what’s up with the Incubator anyway?
Our Perceptions and Expectations color our Experiences. If we go to the Chevy Center expecting to see boarded up windows and cracked sidewalks, we’ll see it. If we go to a Football game expecting to have a good time, we will.
And How I experience something is not the same way you experience it. We can both be part of the exact same event, and our experiences are 180 degrees apart. And Neither are wrong. They’re just different.
What Brought this on? An Email at work. One of those jokes forwarded across the network that someone thinks is funny. See, I don’t work in Manufacturing, my business is not tied to GM. So the people I work with in Pittsburgh and farther east thought this was funny:
So, What do you think? Is this your Experience?
